Tricks, licks and injustice

or

Response to injustice

Clever dog!

My little Spike is everyone's dog at home… he strolls around  from one floor to another depending on where the cooking smells come from. Be it roommates, workshop activists or family members, everybody likes him. For him, doors aren't borders (they're nothing but wood swiveling on hinges, right?). This walking stomach knows how to swing them open with a simple bark or a scratch. Especially as he recognises people while they're still in the street. He is clever! Particularly with those whom he knows he can bend. He has an inner clock to tell him when the regulars arrive, and they will have no other choice than to give in 'coz it's true: "he's so cuuuute!"

Oh-oh…! (ouch!)

But the other day, something really disturbing happened: he didn't finish his bowl…(!?)

Straight away, we called Sephora, our daughter (veterinary assistant). She rushed immediately and took a blood sample.

Damn

We were forced to lock him in a cage and put him on a drip for a week (he just didn't understand what was happening to him). The result of the tests was very clear: his kidneys are in real bad shape. For his own good, nobody is allowed to give him any non medical food anymore!

Lord, why?

The dog just doesn't understand what is happening to him. His tricks don't work anymore! Why has everyone become so "mean"? oh… he must've had such a feeling of injustice.

I tried to explain it to him. But, no way! His brain isn't big enough (he can't read, can’t speak a single word of English, and doesn't even know what a kidney is!!!)

What worries me even more than his health, is that he could think that we don't love him anymore. Fortunately we are very close: for sure he knows there is another reason.

God and you

To a certain extent, couldn’t you be in the same situation as me and Spike…?

You suffer injustices, you feel you're a victim and you ask yourself "why does God allow such things, has God forsaken me…?"

Hmm… You're confusing "injustice" with "ignorance", 'coz the one clear and absolutely essential thing for you to know is that: whatever happens, God loves you!*… sooo much…!!

*He said so (in the Bible), He doesn't lie and it's obvious to all those who know Him personally.

Superiority of dog on man

Okay, we might be smarter than him, but when it comes to a relationship with a master… we could improve a lot, couldn't we?!

If I don't give in to any of Spike's tricks anymore and if I only give him yucky food (compared to before), it's for his own good, believe me. When I hold him on a leash it's in order to preserve him from his lack of obedience and self control (he barks after dogs 3 times his size).

Fortunately, the friendly relationship Spike and I have, can only convince him of that. I always bring him along in the forest, I pet him, speak gently to him, play with him, nurse him and if I get tough it’s only to keep him from danger.

Go in the forest with God!

Whatever your need (or want) may be, spend time with God. Rejoice with Him, play, share, run, live with Him. And same as for me, the tears and laughter you share will fill you up. Sometimes you will feel Him cuddle your soul and His loving eyes upon you: there is no greater blessing on earth. And if ever you don’t feel it, just believe it, it’s even better!

Jesus said:

“I am the good shepherd, my sheep know my voice… the good shepherd loves his sheep and lays down His life for them…”

PS: I didn’t share this analogy to hold a pity party, but in order to help those who could be struggling with these issues. I’m fine, and in his own way, so is the dog. (We know how to make the best out of the time we still have together)

Find more cool stories with Spike from time to time, his master and his Master…

The first volume of "Meet me in the forest" is available in English as an e-book The translation of the second volume is in progress.

I’m cleaning up !*
I’m about to start vacuuming my bedroom when I see a spider. I feel compassion for her, so I decide to put her in a safe place.

You’d expect her to thank me for that, right ? Nooope, and she’s even stressed to death, super upset because this wasn’t where she was planning on going.

*it took my wife years of training for me to get there !

The parallel
I think you got what I was trying to say, right ?
God is also compassionate on bugs who are much more horrible and harmful for their environment: us. Yes, he even loves us, and he doesn’t wish us misfortune. And just like me with the spider, he allows programme changes, disturbs our “perfect” plans to save us from the worst.

This theme is widely developed in my comics, Azvaltya 1, if you’re interested.

Worse than coronavirus !!
I don’t mean to minimise the pain of those who are suffering from this. No, you have all my sympathy, because what happened to some of you is terrible. Some died and had to leave a little earlier than us. My thoughts go to those who are presently mourning…

But our society suffers from a greater evil than this virus. It even suffers from several evils, but I’ll only focus on one: DOING ! We are constantly running after tons of activities, whether it be work or other things… what are we running from ?

Despite the excuses we give so we never have to stop, we are harming those who matter the most to us, our close relatives and ourselves.

What I see for now, with the measures taken towards the coronavirus, is the confinement (please, respect these measures!). We are “condemned” to staying at home with our partner, our children or just ourselves. Those are all precious beings who deserve our attention and our love. Let’s fully live this moment without wasting it with this panic-fear, these conspiracy discussions, criticising the authorities, etc. Let’s enjoy this exceptional time. It’s a time for creativity, pausing, to see things differently, to focus on those we love.

Yah yah, me too
Yesterday, we had a few hours of anthology with my little family, whether at home or elsewhere (thank you Skype!), and how much did we laugh !

For now, I can still go to the woods but if not, I’ll still have the possibility of locking myself up in the tranquillity of my bedroom to talk to God. Don’t let this special time be taken away from you, it’s also there for that.

Thanks to this time with no shows, nor volunteers, nor visitors and with collaborators who are working from home: I’M WRITING LIKE CRAZY ! I align hours in my improvised office in the garden. I write, “Date in the forest, the origins.” You’ll see, it’s good stuff.

The collapse of the economy
Yes, I know, it’s tough. Coronavirus also means the paralysis of our system. With libraries closing down, selling my books, which was already slow, isn’t getting easier. But let me tell you something: it was never your job that made sure you’d never lack anything. No, it was and still is God who allows you to have this job, or if you don’t have one, who allows you to still be among us… (I assume that if you’re reading this, it means you’re still alive…). I have so many times experienced that God takes care of those who put all their trust in Him. I saw it again two weeks ago ! And I’ll have to see it next week.. !

God is here, let go of your fear, choose trust, and you’ll see it too…

Okay I’ll stop here, there’s still so many things to say, but there’s already such a cacophony of messages bursting from everywhere on the topic…

With all my affection,

Where’s that bottle?

I’m at the supermarket, stuck, as if disabled, between tinned foods and Asian condiments. I’m desperately looking for a very particular wee green bottle: wasabi! No matter how painstakingly my searching eyes have scanned the shelves in front of me, centimetre by centimetre, enough to wear them out, it’s no use: I can’t see it! I am in the right section, though: it ought to be there!!

Some shop-worker must have deliberately hidden it, for some dark, unmentionable reasons.

Alright, then, plan B!

I now look for a sales person (not sure if this is going to be any easier!)... I catch one, crouched down, excavating the shampoo section, with his right arm buried in the unexpected depths of a shelf. When I ask him if he’s the joker who’s hidden the wasabi, he gets up and, head down, charges towards ‘my’ section. With no effort at all, he stretches out his hand and extracts from it the little bottle of wasabi!

Looking like an idiot!

Momentarily letting drop the impassive self-restraint of the salesperson, a faint smirk forms on his face. The small sneer is perceptible enough to make him slightly roll his eyes... Thinking I was about to be awarded a medal, as a righter of wrongs, for noting the disappearance of the prized product, there I was, left looking like a complete jerk.

The packaging

If I didn’t see it, there’s a good reason why: the item is now adorned with new packaging, which it didn’t have before! And my memory had an exact mental image of that bottle which did not correspond to the reality. In the end, it’s not the appearance of this darn bottle (oh yes, it is very appealing, blah blah blah) that interests me... but much more the taste of what it contains, OK?!

Haven’t you seen God?!

You have honestly asked God to show you that He exists, asked Him for - you know - a sign!...

Well, I’m pretty sure that He’s done it: think of my story about the wasabi... you need to accept that He’s different from what you imagine (even if your idea of the divine is very appealing)!

And if you have prayed for some thingummyjig... but there’s been nowt...

Hmmmm... Wasabi, man, WASABI!!"

FR2 the comeback

There seems to be changes in religious broadcasting on FR2 (a French TV channel):

They hired young filmmakers to renew the style. Quite naturally, a new team showed up at the Auderset workshop in order to get a new perspective on my forest!

No matter how hard I tried to tell them that the conditions couldn't be worse to get nice shots that look good on a screen – 'coz visually speaking it was the time of the year when the trees are most ugly: no more leaves and no snow yet! – it didn't stop them. One of them even told me: "We rely on God!".

?!… Wow, unusual kind of answer in that social environment… (unless it was a joke… !?)

A localized climatic miracle!

The crazy thing happened, as soon as they arrived: a snowstorm occurred!!!

In record time, snow wrapped the forest in a beautiful white coat!

The whole team witnessed it. The outcome was outstanding pictures!!!

During the shooting, I insisted on the fact that we were to go in the forest not only to speak to God but to listen to Him all the more.

As soon as they were done shooting, the snow melted!

They were three, and two of them wrote to me that it had real struck them and that, since the shooting, they had been going in the forest to seek God, too. One of them even told me that he went there every day, since.

It's my prayer that, after the broadcast of this program, there will be thousands of them!!!

The greenery of almost translucent leaves, filtering the thousand different shades of the sun
created a magical atmosphere, a play of shadows and light upon the forest path that I took;
The gentle rustling of the wind accompanies me in my discussions with God;
The unmistakable odor of the wild ferns clustered around the majestic, slender figures of age-old moss-covered trees, gnarled as wise men of old.
All are now gone - their corpses strewn haphazardly upon the ground.
A whole part of the forest has been razed, my secret little path along which I loved to walk with God has been stripped bare... the powerful scent of cut wood, normally so pleasant, sticks in my throat.
No more prayer This sorry spectacle, this carnage, unexpectedly brings back certain memories, reopening old heart wounds, it’s as if the ground has been cut from under me (that’s funny, I don’t think I’m the only one in that situation here…)
I want to express all this to my God, but emotion has gripped me by the throat, choking me, my words are unable to escape, unable to reach Him, I can’t speak.
A picture worth a thousand words At this moment, I remembered the drawing that I did yesterday: Jesus tenderly gathering his sheep in His arms.
- "Lord, I... that’s what I wanted to pray! I’d like to be like those sheep.
Instinctively, I open my Bible to follow on from where I'd been reading
(not that I was the only one talking here) and here are the exact words I read:
"He tends his flock like a shepherd: He gathers the lambs in his arms and carries them close to his heart..." (Isaiah 40, verse 11)
His response is so immediate, so fitting, it touches me deeply, all I can do is say...wow! What a source of comfort I have in Jesus! yet so few people are aware of it... however, I won’t forget them - The forest is a large one and I plunge into it with Him in search of new paths, new wonders. When I get out, both of us will be ready to face this savage world.
